What is a Hospice Volunteer?
A Hospice Volunteer is many things. He or she can....
Offer a caring and personalized support to a person who is in the last phases of a life-threatening illness, and to their family as well.
Offer a scheduled amount of time per week (up to four hours) to help the person who is in the last phases of life by: providing non-judgmental listening, letter and memoir writing, playing card or board games, or by simply being present.
Offer a scheduled amount of time per week (up to four hours) to help the family by doing what needs to be done: providing respite time so the caregiver can leave the home, preparing a meal, running errands, taking the children to the park, providing pet care and finding the family resources that they need.
Build a unique relationship with the person who is in the last phases of life and their family, based on the person and family's needs and the volunteers talents.
Or they may offer their time as...
A facilitator for Grief Support Groups, which are available for both adults and children (and additional 15 hours of Volunteer Training is required).
A supporter of Hospice through committee work, helping with special projects or by sharing their talents (musical, lyrical, with pets, massage or energy work) with many persons who are in the last phases of life.
